Fanling Chais' are sincere and loyal to their Roots
I must say Zahir has done a very laudable thing by setting up this website. I was very touched by the sentiments of Ishfaq from Tokyo. One looks back with nostalgia at the carefree time when we all used to play on 'paharis'. Ishfaq is right that we would like to go back in time when we used to play near the quarters in Fanling and go to Pakistani Police Primary School. We really miss our elders. Most of the fathers and uncles have passed away (Allah bless their souls). That time will never come back. I think it is wonderful that since it was a Police Camp it has survived more or less in the same shape albeit with a few cosmetic changes. The mosque was a brilliant idea and it should be kept 'abaad'. I have another idea what you guys in Hong Kong could do is that you can have an Eid Milan party in the Fanling Mosque on the next Sunday after Eid. Take the kids with you so they see the place where we all used to play. You could even organize a football match for the little boys. We were damned lucky to have such a healthy environment in which to grow up. Imagine the times we grew up with not a care in the world. All you hear now is suicide bombers blowing people up. If one just thinks about it at that time it was the centre of universe for us what with the panoramic views of mountains around and lush greenery everywhere. A time of utter innocence and I am happy to feel from the response to this website that almost all of the 'Fanling Chais' are very sincere and loyal to their roots. I thought you guys are all money minded businessmen! We may have been ethnically Pakistani but our roots are indeed in Fanling. I was really impressed by Fayyazuddin's poetry. That speaks of his time spent in Pakistan. For those of you with small children it is a good idea to let the kids spend a few years in school in Pakistan as it polishes the personality in terms of written and verbal expression and in cultural norms/respect of elders etc. Azhar Anwar's entry was interesting. I have already told Zahir that I am going to write a background history of Pakistani Police personnel in Hong Kong and their dependents. However it will take some time as I have to juggle work/family commitments as well. This website is going to develop with everybody's efforts and inshallah after some time it will give a very mature and professional look. Once again kudos to Zahir for the good work and God bless you all. With lots of love, Tanveer (UK)
