Hi everyone. I was going through the website
www.karakorams.com and what a wonderful website it is. It is run by young Pakistanis and it is very encouraging to see so many Pakistanis undertaking mountain climbing/trekking. When I went to Broad Peak (near K2) in 1989 this was the preserve of foreigners and the Pakistan Army Liaison Officers or the local Balti porters. I had gone with Italian team (picture in photo section). The point of writing is that for anyone of a more adventurous bent the site is the best resource to plan a trekking trip. If trekking is too arduous an undertaking then a trip to Shangri La Resort in Skardu in summers with the family is a doable without having to organize an expedition. The founder of Shangri La Brigadier Aslam (brother of Air Marshal Asghar Khan) has even converted a crashed Dakota aircraft into a penthouse. There is a Boeing service from Islamabad Airport. You will find the geology of the place majestic. It has an out of world quality. If a trip cannot be organized just enjoy the superbly written articles on the trekking expeditions and photographs. Pakistan a country with the greatest number of peaks higher than 8000 meters. Godspeed!
