Interesting information about life in Singapore |
Just a quick Email to thank you Zafar for a wonderful and interesting piece of information you gave to us about life in Singapore. I believe that you have a gift for describing things clear and interesting way and I very much appreciate all the knowledge you passed on to us. I remember when we visited you in Singapore couple of years ago, your tour was encyclopedic and inspired us to read more about the fall of Singapore and World War II and so I was compelled to read 'Hellfire Pass' by Cameron Forbes. It is an excellent read and I would highly recommend it to all of Fanling Chais. The first few chapters give a brief outline of the racial tension and Australia’s relationship with the Japanese before, during and after WW1, and of the economic and political factors that influenced Japan in it's decision to enter WW2. Good Luck in advance to Zahir, Tahir and all brothers who are planning 4x4 tour. It would definitely be adventure for all those adventurous. Wish you all the best and have a wonderful weekend! |

About Singapore |
Assalam-o-Aliakum to All, It is good to see that discussion forum active again. Tanveer Bhai..as requested, I would be more than glad to talk about Singapore life & provide some information on this little dynamic country. Let me tell you about it, this country introduces to the many cultures in a safe and modern environment. I found Singapore is easy when it comes to adjust to a foreign country. Many young expatriates often see Singapore as a professional launch pad as many multinational companies setting up regional offices here, particularly many companies from the UK & US. Employment is relatively stable now, so finding a job shouldn't be as hard as it was a couple of years ago. Anyone interested check out www.monster.com.sg to have a look at the kind of jobs available and the kind of qualifications needed. For young students the universities are arguably better (National University of Singapore- ranked top 20 in the world) than the polytecnics, but the polytechnics are really good too. The pace of life is mediocre and the city thrives day and night with variety of actions. The heartlands are quieter, but have their fair share of moving action. Sport, travel and entertainment opportunities are very good and the food is a dream! so there's a good variety of great Halal food! All the fast food chains as well as foreign restaurants are Halal Certified by local Islamic centre. The weather is rather warm (average 27-34 degrees celsius). However, you will get used to it. As you know the westerner just love the sun- most die to sit outside and tan. But it is humid. Bearable though. Very very bearable. Might take sometime getting used to, but ultimately it's pleasant. There’s also heavy rainy seasons start from midyear. The people. Hum...Well, people here are very competitive in studies and quite hardworking. The emotional side- they have been said to be gentle and polite sometime aggressive, but seriously, people hardly faced any big problems dealing with them. The fact that Singapore has a very low crime rate and the streets are safe during day and at night. No worry about racism here. Compared to other countries, it's practically non-existent and taken very very seriously by authority. It is a very multi-racial country same as the neighbouring country of Malaysia. It's a clean place...very green too (thatz why called city of garden). And also, it might be important for you to know that in terms of stability and peace, the country is well-off. The currency is pretty strong and the place is really peaceful and has very diplomatic heads. Housing and cars are really quite expensive compared to other countries, car owners must get CEO (certificate of entitlement for 10 years /per car) start from 20 thousands bucks and above. The housing estates (even the public ones) are well maintained and clean, so no worries there. It has excellent infrastructure in a cosmopolitan environment. Religious freedom has always given there are many mosques in this city and ranging from small to big (probably about 100 above). If you got a chance then must visit. You’ll like it, I'm sure. Happy weekend to all.…Zafar |

London - Hong Kong |
How about London - Hong Kong or Hong Kong - London Rally, It's as simple as it could be: Buy a 4 x 4 jeep , drive it several thousand miles to China , via Europe, crossing the Bosphorus Bridge in Turkey and then to Pakistan , arrive in Hong Kong , donate the Jeep and fly back home. The perfect two to three weeks holiday. Is some one interested ?? |
